Why Poinciana?
African Centered Values
Communalism- Working together as a group rather than focus on the individual. Community-minded
Order- Focus on organization, peace and order.
Reciprocity- Karmic give and take. Goodwill begets more goodwill
Creativity- To create something from nothing
Balance- To be in order and have proportion and harmony.
Justice, Truth, Liberation of Humanity- All beings should be able to live free and in their truth.
Our African Centered Values are at the core of who and what we are. We strive to incorporate these values everyday to encourage students' social growth and self-concept to help them become the fullest version of themselves.
Gardening/Food Program
Breakfast, lunch and snack program prepared by students, African inspired, utilizing food grown from their garden.
We will have a focus on teaching students how to grow, source and cook whole, nourishing foods. Providing home cooked food with ingredients students have helped to grow and help cook will nourish their physical bodies as well as make real-life connections with academics.
Enrichment Program
We will be offering music lessons, French class, dance and golf. Capoeira, African drumming and storytelling, visual arts and chess to be added in the future.
Every Wednesday we will offer a half-day enrichment program. Students will have the opportunity to take additional classes with our community partners on this day. Right now we are offering music lessons, French lessons, dance and golf. We will be offering many more opportunities in the future as our school grows.
